Song Quote Response (Blog 10)

"Cause when your fifteen and somebody tells you they love you you're gonna believe them, and when you're fifteen feeling like there's nothing to figure out, wel count to 10 take it in this is life before you know who youre gonna be." (Taylor Swift)

This is a great song. "When your fifteen" are the words that leap out to me in this song because they are used frequently. I believe this is a fun song because come on who's not going to believe someone saying I love you when their fifteen, right? I think this song connects to the poem because it is upbeat and the author emphasizes it well. This song interests me because 7-10 girls actually go through this at this age. It's feelings not only does the author feel but many young girls too.

Poem Paraphrase (Blog 8)

I reviewed the poem White Lies by Edwin Arlington Robinson

After I read this poem a few times I discovered through the the first couple lines that this little boy is of color but so light of color he could be "white". He remember all the lies he had told throughout his childhood and wished that he could still lie as he got older. As it seemed like he wanted to lie because he was embarrassed about the life-style he lived compared to some people he knew. Also, remembering every time he did get caught telling a lie his mother would wash his mouth out with soup. He knew he was not to lie and I believe the way he was raised kept him from continuing those lies he so badly wanted to tell.

Freestyle (Blog entry 7)

For my freestyle reading I just finished reading A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks. This book is amazing! This was one of those books once you begin reading it you don't stop till the end. Nicholas Sparks is my favorite author. The novel is very suspenseful and interesting. It's a tragic story ending romantic and satisfying. In this story a horrible acciedent occured taking a life away. No one knew who had been at fault except for the person that had committed the crime. Throughout the book there was clues leading toward the acciedent but over the years of clues something amazing came along leading into a romantic love story.

Quote Response (Blog entry 6)

"One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cent of it was in pennies."

I love this quote from The Gift of the Magi. This story really stuck out to me, not only because I love romantic love stories but this one really drove the meaning of love into my head. Jim and Della sell their most valuable items to buy each other Christmas gifts. This story uses gifts as a way of showing love for each other. Even though these gifts become their most valuable gifts and are not used its the care shown throughout the story.

Freestyle Reading Assignment

Franz Kafka

"No one but you could have been admitted here, since this entrance was meant for you alone. Now I am going to shut it."

I choose this story out of Chapter 10 because I was curious about the "law".

This story was short but interesting. This boy sits at this door for all his life trying to get through the doorskeeper when all he had to do was just go in through the door. He waited and waited to watch the doorskeeper to find any way in that door, while the doorskeeper told him "it's possible" to go through the door "but not just now" when the time was right he would let him in. Near death he realixes that the man had reached his end and let him in the door and shut it. I found this story hard to get at first, after reading it twice I came to realize the thrive and willingness to spend his whole life waiting at a door just to reach the "law".

Quote-Response

"They wern't only the audience, not only looking on; they were acting. Even she had a part and came every Sunday. No doubt somebody would have noticed if she hadn't been there; she was part of the performance after all." (Wolff 86)

This quote stood out to me in a couple different ways. I strongly believe that every human plays a very important role to their community. It takes a certian skill that we have as a person to work together as a team. Even if it is just a part in a play or a position at a job everyone is a part in something. This quote caught my attention because it made me stop and think what role I play a part in everyday. It makes people feel good to know they are needed.
